This page has three parts: Part A — Terms of Use (the rules for using the site), Part B — Privacy & Cookie Notice (what we do with your data), and Part C — Affiliate Disclosure (how we make money from some links). LeaseMate ehf. (kt. [• number], [• address], "LeaseMate", "we", "us") operates this website (the "Site"). By using the Site you agree to Part A.
Part A — Terms of Use
1. What LeaseMate is (and isn't)
1.1 A directory, not a booking service.
LeaseMate is a curated directory that helps you discover individual places to stay in Iceland and plan self-drive trips around them. We introduce you to independent hosts ("Hosts") who let their own properties. We are not a travel agent, tour operator, booking service, or letting agent.
1.2 We are not a party to your stay.
Any stay you arrange is a direct agreement between you and the Host. We do not own, control, manage, or inspect any property, we are not party to any rental agreement, and we have no involvement in your booking, your stay, or anything that happens during it.
1.3 No bookings or payments happen on the Site.
You cannot book or pay for accommodation through LeaseMate. We do not take reservations, process payments, hold deposits, or confirm bookings. When you want to stay somewhere, you contact the Host and arrange everything — dates, price, terms, and payment — directly with them.
1.4 Enquiries, not reservations.
Where the Site lets you contact a Host (by email link or a simple enquiry form), that is an introduction only. It does not reserve anything, create any booking, or commit you or the Host to anything. The Host decides whether and how to respond, and any agreement is made directly between you and the Host, away from the Site.
1.5 Prices are indicative.
Any nightly rate shown is information supplied by the Host to help you. It is not an offer you can accept through the Site and may change. The price that binds is the one you agree with the Host directly.
2. Booking and dealing with Hosts
2.1 Read the Host's own terms.
Each Host sets their own rental terms, house rules, cancellation policy, and refund policy. Before you arrange a stay, read and agree those directly with the Host. We are not responsible for a Host's terms and do not set, guarantee, or enforce them.
2.2 We don't vet, guarantee, or mediate.
While we curate the directory, we do not verify every detail of every listing, do not guarantee that any property, Host, description, photo, price, or availability is accurate or current, and we are not obliged to mediate or resolve any dispute between you and a Host. Listings are provided by Hosts and shown largely as supplied.
2.3 Your own checks.
You are responsible for deciding whether a property and Host are suitable for you, and for your own travel arrangements, insurance, and safety. A stay in a remote Icelandic property may carry risks (weather, isolation, terrain); you accept those risks when you choose to stay.
3. Using the Site
3.1 Acceptable use.
Use the Site lawfully and as intended. Do not scrape, copy, or republish listings or other content for your own commercial use, attempt to disrupt the Site, misuse the enquiry function (e.g. spam Hosts), or use the Site to break any law.
3.2 Accuracy of what you send.
When you contact a Host, give accurate information. You are responsible for what you send.
3.3 Availability.
We try to keep the Site available and accurate but provide it on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We may change, suspend, or withdraw the Site or any listing at any time.
4. Other websites, links, and trip extras
4.1 Links to third parties.
The Site links to independent third parties — for example tour operators, car hire, experiences, insurance providers, and independent guides or maps. These are separate businesses we do not control.
4.2 Bookings with third parties are with them, not us.
If you follow a link from the Site to a third party and buy or book something there, that purchase is with the third party and not with LeaseMate. We are not responsible for, and have no liability to you in respect of, anything you book or buy from a third party. Read their terms before you buy.
4.3 We may earn commission.
We earn a commission from some of these third parties when you book through our links. This costs you nothing extra. See Part C — Affiliate Disclosure for the details.
5. Intellectual property
5.1 Our content.
The Site's design, branding, route and region content, computed information (such as drive times), and the curation itself are owned by LeaseMate or our licensors and protected by intellectual-property law. You may view and use the Site for your own personal, non-commercial trip planning only.
5.2 Host content.
Listing text and images are provided by Hosts and remain theirs (or their licensors'). Don't copy or reuse them.
6. Liability
6.1 What we're not liable for.
Because we are only a directory and not a party to your stay, we are not liable for: any property, Host, or stay; a Host's acts, omissions, terms, cancellation, or refusal; the accuracy of any listing; anything you book or buy from a third party; or any loss arising from your reliance on information on the Site.
6.2 Liability we don't exclude.
Nothing in these Terms limits any liability that cannot lawfully be limited — including liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud — and nothing affects the mandatory legal rights you have as a consumer, which vary by your country of residence and are not reduced by these Terms.
6.3 Cap.
Subject to clause 6.2, and to the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability to you in connection with the Site is limited to [• a nominal amount, e.g. ISK 10,000 / €100], reflecting that the Site is free to use and we are not a party to any transaction.
7. Changes, law, and contact
7.1 Changes.
We may update these Terms from time to time; the current version is always on the Site.
7.2 Governing law.
These Terms are governed by the laws of Iceland, subject to any mandatory consumer-protection rights you have in your country of residence. Disputes may be brought before the [• District Court of Reykjavík (Héraðsdómur Reykjavíkur)]. If you are a consumer in the EEA, you may also use your local consumer dispute-resolution options.
7.3 Contact.

Part B — Privacy & Cookie Notice
This explains what personal data we collect and why, in line with the GDPR as it applies in the EEA (including Iceland) and the ePrivacy/cookie rules. LeaseMate ehf. is the data controller for the data described here.
8. What we collect and why
| What | When / why | Lawful basis |
|---|---|---|
| Enquiry details (your name, email, dates, message) | When you contact a Host through the Site | To pass your enquiry to the Host so they can respond — performance of your request / our legitimate interest in operating the directory |
| Contact you give us (e.g. if you email us or sign up for updates) | When you choose to | Your consent / our legitimate interest in responding |
| Usage and device data (pages viewed, approximate location, device/browser) | Automatically, via cookies and similar tools — only the essential ones without consent | Legitimate interest (essential operation) / consent for non-essential analytics and affiliate cookies |
| Referral / attribution codes | When you arrive via a creator's link or use a discount code | To attribute traffic and (where it applies) commissions — see Part C |
We do not collect or store payment-card details, and we do not process or hold any payment between you and a Host.
9. The enquiry handoff (important)
When you send an enquiry, we pass the details you provide to the relevant Host so they can reply to you. From that point, the Host is responsible as a separate data controller for how they use your information, under their own privacy practices. We pass on only what's needed to make the introduction, and we don't use your enquiry to do anything other than connect you with that Host (and keep basic records that an enquiry was made — never any record of whether you went on to book).
10. Who else sees your data
- Hosts — only the enquiry details you choose to send them (clause 9).
- Our service providers — e.g. hosting, email, and analytics suppliers, who act on our instructions under data-processing terms.
- Third-party sites you click through to(tours, car hire, etc.) — they collect data under their own privacy policies once you leave our Site; we don't control that.
We keep personal data within the EEA where possible; if any transfer outside the EEA is needed, we use appropriate safeguards. We keep data only as long as needed for the purpose it was collected, then delete or anonymise it.
11. Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask us to access, correct, delete, or restrict your personal data, object to certain processing, port your data, and withdraw consent at any time (withdrawing consent is as easy as giving it). To exercise any of these, contact [• email]. You can also complain to the Icelandic Data Protection Authority (Persónuvernd) or your local supervisory authority.
12. Cookies and similar technologies
12.1 Essential cookies
Essential cookies keep the Site working (e.g. security, remembering your cookie choice). These run without consent because the Site can't function without them.
12.2 Non-essential cookies
Non-essential cookies — analytics (to understand how the Site is used) and any affiliate/attribution cookies (to credit a booking you make on a partner's site to us). We do not set these until you consent via the cookie banner, and you can change or withdraw your choice at any time below or from the cookie banner.
Essential cookies keep the site working. Analytics and partner cookies run only if you opt in. You can change your choice at any time.
Current choice: No preference saved yet.
More detail in our Privacy & Cookie Notice.
12.3 If you decline non-essential cookies
The Site still works for browsing and enquiring; some analytics and some commission-attribution simply won't operate. (Where we attribute via referral/discount codes in the link or URL rather than cookies, that attribution does not depend on cookie consent — see Part C.)
12.4 We don't use a cookie wall.
You can use the Site whether or not you accept non-essential cookies.
Part C — Affiliate Disclosure
In plain terms: some links on this Site are paid links. If you book a tour, hire a car, buy travel insurance, or buy a guide or map through certain links, we may earn a commission from that supplier. It costs you nothing extra — you pay the same price — and you are buying from that supplier, not from LeaseMate.
- We only earn on trip extrasbooked through partner links (e.g. tours, car hire, experiences, insurance, creators' guides/maps). We do not earn any commission on your accommodation — you pay the Host directly and we take nothing from that.
- A commission does not change the price you pay or the order in which we show things in a way you aren't told about. Where a listing or option is shown because it is paid placement rather than editorial, it is labelled (e.g. "Ad" / "Sponsored").
- We aim to recommend things because they're useful for an Iceland trip, not only because they pay. But you should know about the commercial relationship, which is why we disclose it here and next to the links themselves.
